Looks like Universal is looking into possibly doing a movie on the Lensman books. I found a news story in Sci-Fi.com. Looks like they are working on an 18-month renewable option for the rights. The books are by E.E. "Doc" Smith and were written back in the 30's. Very cool space opera type books. I really enjoyed them but haven't read them in years now.

It has been a while since I've seen the Lensman anime film available; I'm not sure that it has ever been released on DVD. We are unlikely to see a U.S. release of the spun-off anime t.v. series. Modern Hollywood studios haven't done a great job with Golden-Age space operas. The best one I've seen was Filmation's animated Flash Gordon series--and that became unwatchable (at least for me) after the first season.

There are a ton of books i would love to see movies made out of...

The Book of Swords & Book of Lost Swords series...
(I shatter swords, I splinter Spears, None stand to Sheildbreaker!)

The Guardians of the Flame series...

The Iron Tower Trilogy

The Shanara's

The Xainth series

Many many others...

Someone else mentions the Grey mouser... Perhaps people here can confirm/deny this. Is the thief character that Matthew Broderick played in the movie "Ladyhawke" patterned after the Grey Mouser? just wondering because a friend told me it was...

Hmmm, I can see why someone might suppose that. I doubt that there's any direct connection between Broderick's Mouse and the Mouser, but that's only my opinion. There could be a little cross-pollination there.

I'd like to see the first 4 Riftwar books live action.

I'd love to see them do another Clive Cussler and actually stay true to the story and characters but since they F'd up Sahara and Cussler sued over it I'm thinking the likleyhood of getting anymore done is slim to none.

I agree the Dark Tower would be excellent live action but they would need to make a series out of it, you snip stuff out of that story and it still work, it already messes with your mind as it is and I haven't even read the last two books yet. Is it just me or would Clive Owen make a great Roland?

Eragon wasent the greatest movie. It had an amazing cast though. Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou, Garret Hedlund, Rachel Weisz, and John Malkovich are all great actors.

Gah, I gave up on the movie Eragon after the previews. I caught too many mistakes to even try.

As for book-movies...
The Thief Lord by Funke
Cry of the Icemark
Beastly
...and so, so many more that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Oh, and Twilight done correctly(apologies to fans, but I thought it sucked in keeping with the book besides for Bella.)

The Cry of Icemark and Temeriare are actually works in progress. Granted, Icemark has been "a work in progress" for 3 years...

Huh! Well, if it's still a 'work in progress' if/when I become a director, I'll do it.

I thought so I'll probably make the inn thread into a movie or something too, with the owners of the characters in advisory.
